after the tragedy in aurora investigators still removing items from the shooters home. today what they found as the victim's are remembered. good evening, i'm adam may, major new developments. investigators find major new developments inside the gunman's apartment. >> reporter: sunday's service at aurora's colorado church was solely dedicated to the tragedy that hit the community. >> this is a good community, people love each other. it's just a tragic thing that's happened. >> reporter: the congregation also prayed for the accused gunman 28-year-old james holmes. >> james holmes has a mother and a father and they are carrying a very big burden so we forgive them too.

>> reporter: across from the crime scene, craig placed six crosses, he did the same thing after the columbine shooting. >> it's so hard to be back. i mean this is the second time. >> reporter: all around aurora people have been filling churches, turning to prayer to help make sense of the massacre. meanwhile the suspected gunman remains in solitary confinement while the investigation continues. authorities want to know how holmes got the materials used in a shooting and in his apartment. they are investigating dozensover deliveries to his home and school. >> this was a a very intelligent man who wanted to do this. >> reporter: president obama left the white house to aurora. the suspect is expected to make his first court appearance monday morning. teresa garcia. president obama just touched down in colorado. we'll have the latest on that aspect of the story coming up

tonight at 11:00. meanwhile holmes application to join a gun range was rejected. apparently the owner was put off by a message put on his answering machine. stay tuned for complete coverage, for the very latest on the suspect, the victims and the investigation. you can log on to wjz.com. victims of another tragedy are being remembered today. it was exactly one year ago that 77 people were killed in a shooting spree in norway. a service was held on the island where 69 mostly young people were gunned down. anders brevick set off a bomb before going to that island. the verdict is expected on august 24th. after a few days of rain and a little bit of cold weather out there the sun is finally starting to show itself. check this out. a live look outside, still a lot of clouds that are hanging

around out there. but the sun is starting to warm things up again. bernadette woods is live with an updated look at first warning live doppler radar. you can feel the humidity creeping back into the area. >> very thick, and you can see it in the hair too. let's look at warning doppler radar. the difference today nothing really coming out of those clouds. what we're going to do is open this up just a little bit more and show you there is a front moving our way. it's not a whole lot to this front yet but it's going to come in from the northwest monday into tuesday. the thing with this front is it's really going to bust up this weather pattern a little bit before it gets here. take a look at temperatures out there. with the sunshine returning it's 81 degrees. we have a lot of 80s as compared to 60s. that's one big swing around out here. we're getting warmer tomorrow afternoon. >> more details in a few minutes. big money is going to help

local kids. mike hellgren reports on how the cruise industry is giving back to baltimore. >> reporter: the cruise industry brings in $90 million to the local economy. now the cruise lines are writing some big checks. $50,000 to three foundations. >> this is a big part of the commitment that we have to the port communities where we do business and that they serve our customers. >> our children are the living messages we send to our future we will never see. >> reporter: congressman cummings praised the donations. >> so many of these children have never been outside of baltimore. when they go and come back it's phenomenal. >> we support young people throughout the entire baltimore season. students who want to be something with their lives, want to be exceptional young leaders. >> reporter: it's a powerful investment for the future. industry leaders say they will continue to donate here. the charitable organization is made up of various cruise lines

of joe paterno torn down as the university braces for the punishment. >> that statute came down early in the morning and the fall out from this whole scandal continues tomorrow as the ncaa reveals its punishments. it was the dismantling of an icon. the statute of joe paterno was covered with a tarp as workers used jam hackers to remove it and put it in storage. >> this is a travesty. >> it's saddened. >> i respect what they did. i understand why there was a lot behind that statute. >> reporter: the president of the baltimore chapter of the penn state allumni said he would not have any comment

until monday, after the ncaa announces the sanctions. those ncaa sanctions will be unprecedented. >> what's off the table i'm told now is the so called death penalty. so penn state will not have its football program suspended for a year. but when the sanctions are alled said and done, penn state is going to wish they had the death penalty -- are alleged said and done. >> reporter: some hoped the gesture would have the ncaa the go easy. penn state's president also said that the statute needed to go because it was a source of division and an obstacle to healing. adam. >> derek valcourt, live

tonight. jerry sandusky is still awaiting sentencing after being convicted of 45 criminal counts of abusing boys. you may want to save a little extra cash if you're planning a road trip any time soon. gas prices are up for the third straight week. experts say there's no relief in sight until maybe after labor day. during may and june things went down but then we hit july and the numbers they actually tripled. experts say this is not at all normal for this time of year. >> nothing has been typical about gas prices this year. we saw them extremely high earlier in the year when typically they are lower because demand is down. then they typically increase a bit during the spring. particularly when we see the refineries do the switch over from the winter field blend to the more expensive spring and summer blends. this year has been off where

shopping. look at this, a pittsburgh mills mall. it was evacuated saturday after a bear cub was spotted running into a sears store. apparently got in through one of those automated doors that just slide open when you walk up to it. a pennsylvania game commission was called in. they tranquilized the bear. the bear is now being returned to the child. what would a bear possibly want at sears? craftman tools are very good. >> hibernator for the winter. >> yeah, he's stocking up. this has been our high, 81 out there. not much of a breeze. it is muggy and we'll have your forecast shortly. ,,,,,,,,,,,,,

in you look just back there by the bay bridge. sunshine. >> sunshine. >> it's back. >> it's a long time to return but it is back. as far as that question, did you like the break or not. i think i lot of people did at least that's the response i got. i am sure some people love the summer weather too. and it is returning. we had the clouds during the early morning hours. it was a little gray through the day but not as wet as yesterday. we're going to get partly to mostly clouds tomorrow and some clouds will start to form in place of those clouds because there's not much of a breeze out there during these overnight hours. as far as temperatures go, this is not quite updated because it's not 68 degrees. let's just jump over it. 81 is where we sit. and that is the high for today. yesterday only topped out at 68 degrees. you can see 87 that's our average. we're closer to it, we're going

back above that average the next couple of afternoons. this is why we're going to warm up. 102 in kansas city. 90s all the way up to bizmark that's the kind of air that's moving in our direction once again. as a front comes in from the west it's going to draw that warmer air with it. the humidity is going to remain up. this is the next front that we're going to do. right in here. so tomorrow, seeing more sunshine around and the chance for an afternoon shower or thunderstorms as that front gets closer. it's not until tuesday that the front clears. again a chance of scattered thunderstorms and storms. it gets out of here on wednesday. before another front comes our way thursday into friday. this one having the chance for scattered showers and thunderstorms with it. so the forecast comes together like this in the water. tomorrow not very high but turning around to the southwest and bringing that warmer air our way. bay temperatures still 80 degrees. forecast for tonight, we're
